you haven't heard from me? I'm probably reading...

Dear blog readers,
As much as I can, I will post about the artists, artworks, and events that I attend.  However, I cannot blog about everything due to a myriad of reasons; mostly because copyrights and personal property, imagery, and intellect.  Also, I am overwhelmed by the amount of reading and preparing I must do for my studies...

I know, so lame of me, right?!
BUT I will do my best to share what I can

... last week I attended a few gallery openings:

At the end of the week, we enjoyed a slice of Italian fun at the San Gennaro Festival

About the festival: The 85th Annual Feast of San Gennaro, New York City’s longest-running, biggest and most revered religious outdoor festival in the United States, will be held Thursday, September 15, through Sunday, the 25th, on the streets of historic Little Italy, the lower Manhattan neighborhood which served as the first home in America for hundreds of thousands of Italian immigrants who came here seeking to improve their lives beginning in the early part of the 20th century.
Presented annually since 1996 by Figli di San Gennaro, Inc., the 11-day event features religious processions and colorful parades, free musical entertainment every day, a wide variety of ethnic food delicacies, charming restaurants and cafes and even a world-famous cannoli-eating competition!

baby cannoli!
This weekend brought cold weather to New York.  People are walking around in fall gear trying to be happy in the days of autumn before winter hits us in the face.  Unfortunately, the cold weather brought achy sore throats, and I fell victim to 'not feeling too hot'.  I spent the majority of the weekend taking it easy and recuperating.

However, this week my roomie is in Boston, so while she's gone, she left me with a friend...
...some awesome chai latte ice cream!
Well if that don't warm the spirits!!

moose + mitch

This past week, my delightful Mother sent me a custom cover for my television, as well as matching pillows for the living room:
Thanks, Mom!

Last Friday, I went to a couple gallery openings in Chelsea with some class mates.  We went to see Lucio Fontana and Sterling Ruby's work at the Andrea Rosen Gallery.
Check out info here

From there we traveled to a second gallery, which closed on us by shutting off the lights while we were enjoying the art

After hanging out at The Half King, we made our way to The Frying Pan.
Visiting the site is anti-climactic, so hopefully my evening photo of our view will be better:

Even though where we were sitting was on the dock, and NOT moving, everything around us was bobbing in the water.  I proceeded to get very motion sick, and had to focus on a building in order to function in conversation...if you could say what I was doing was functioning

On Saturday, a small group of us went to see Miami Horror at Brooklyn Bowl.
These guys were a lot of fun, and Jac has us claim spots right up front, which for my, is delightful since I'm so short

This weekend was also 9/11
I spent my afternoon at the MoMA, and tried avoiding any craziness downtown.  Jac and I did make a trip later in the evening to Bryant Park to see an installation: 2,753 empty chairs facing south toward the fallen towers - one to honor each person that died in the attacks

"This is gonna be the normalist shit you ever heard"- Reggie Watts

It's September and my semester has begun!
(technically, as of tomorrow. . . I only survived orientation as of yet)

Orientation ended with a discussion and trip to the High Line
Below are a couple photos (with more to come further down)

After leaving the group to find lunch, Jac and I ran into a bit of Shepard Fairey street art, which was ironic because just the night before we watched Exit Through The Gift Shop, a documentary which was nominated for an Oscar.
It's the story of how an eccentric French shop keeper and amateur film maker attempted to locate and befriend Banksy, only to have the artist turn the camera back on its owner. The film contains footage of Banksy, Shephard Fairey, Invader and many of the world's most infamous graffiti artists at work. Written by Sundance Film Festival

We stumbled upon a delightful little Italian restaurant, Pepe Giallo, that blew our minds

most amazing alfredo. ever.
On Saturday, Jac, Caroline & I went to a concert in Queens.  This was my first excursion to Queens, and since GoogleMaps lead us on a wild subway chase, it was a less than desirable experience.  However, once we were to our destination, fun ensued

On Sunday, Jac and I met up with a friend of hers from college and at brunch at La Grainne Cafe in Chelsea
bacon, tomato and sweet sausage omelette

And then we toured the High Line fully

The High Line is a 1-mile New York City park built on a 1.45-mile section of the former elevated freight railroad spur called the West Side Line, which runs along the lower west side of Manhattan; it has been redesigned and planted as an aerial greenway. The High Line Park currently runs from Gansevoort Street, one block below West 12th Street, in the Meatpacking District, up to 30th Street, through the neighborhood of Chelsea to the West Side Yard, near the Javits Convention Center.
